Hamburger Stew
This recipe is one of my favorite comfort foods that my grandmother made as soon as a week, and all the time on a Monday.
I make this stew a bit totally different than how my grandmother used to make it to suit my households style.
Grandma would all the time boil the bottom beef and then skim the fats off of the highest. I discover that frying the meat and draining it isn't solely sooner however tastes exactly the same.
This floor beef stew is simple to make, cheap and tastes fantastic on a fall or chilly winter’s day.
My Grandmother was from Scotland and would by no means ever serve corn as she at all times mentioned “Back within the Old Country we solely fed corn to the pigs” I all the time discovered that funny.
Cook time: 1 hour 15 min
Ready in: 1 hour 35 min
Yields: Will serve 5 individuals
2 pounds ground beef (I use lean)
1 onion chopped
2 stalks celery chopped
2 carrots sliced
1 can of peas or frozen peas
Optional: frozen corn, green beans, blended frozen vegetables
2 cloves garlic pressed
4-5 shakes of Worcestershire sauce
½ tsp thyme
Salt and ground pepper as per your taste
Beef broth: you may both used canned or boxed beef broth. I exploit 3-four Knorr powdered beef broth packets combined with 4 cups of scorching water.
Pan fry the ground beef till cooked. Drain and add to a large stock or soup pot.
Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, onion, celery, carrots, thyme, salt and floor pepper.
Bring all elements to a boil. Cover and simmer for about an hour.
Add your frozen vegetables or canned peas and pressed garlic till vegetables are cooked.
To thicken the stew I combine 2 Tbs. of cornstarch with cold water in a cup. Bring the stew to a boil and add the cornstarch water mixture stirring till the stew thickens.
Serve over mashed potatoes with a facet salad, and or bread or buns.
