James Van Der Beek Shares His Bean And Rice Pancakes Recipe
When you’re jet lagged in James Van Der Beek‘s household, pancakes are just the solution for an easy breakfast. The 40-year-old revealed his “secret ingredient” for his flapjacks is mung beans, which he boils with rice before before blending and adding to classic pancake batter. “It’s what you make dal out of,” Van Der Beek says, referring to the traditional Indian stew that uses the beans. “And try to ignore the chaos,” he says as he zooms over to his daughter Annabel, 3, crying about a very serious coloring matter.
Van Der Beek’s son Joshua, 5, then makes a cute cameo as he was put to work on stirring duty, mixing up the rest of the ingredients. He then blended the mung bean mixture with dates (with a very important note: “don’t wake the baby”) and poured it into the pancake batter, where his daughter started mixing. He says to set the griddle to 250 degrees, pour the mixture on and flip when they bubble.
Then the jury weighed in with their opinion on their dad’s unique take on pancakes, with Joshua saying, “Can you make a dinosaur pancake because I want a dinosaur pancake, Get the full recipe below to try it yourself at home! 1. Gigi, I'm so sorry that your heart is hurting. It's awesome that you enjoy real syrup so much and I wouldn't dream of depriving you of it, but I'm also REAAAALLY glad that Maine is far, far away from me. JC, I'm sure they'll forgive you. We don't demand great social upheaval, we just want to be heard. And to have the freedom to run away. This post is amazing! When I make instant oatmeal at work (maple syrup flavoured) my peers get totally grossed out by the smell. They hate the smell of maple syrup. Apologies to my co-workers!
I'm shocked, so shocked! I thought everyone loved maple syrup. Oh, you're breaking my heart with this hub, even though it's really funny! I love maple syrup so much that I'm writing a hub about it right now. It's maple sugar-production season here in Maine for the next couple of weeks, so all the sugar shacks are open and people are visiting to watch the sap being boiled. It's heaven to me, but I have a feeling you'd really hate it!
I have to say, though, that that stuff that comes out of a Mrs. Butterworth's bottle bears no relation to real maple syrup! I'm not the only one! Very funny. I will only eat maple syrup. Barbara, you are too sweet! But not in a syruppy sort of way AT ALL.
Thank you so much for your kind words. No, I haven't been writing lots, but at least my momma is being prolific! I have to wait until the spark is lit, so to speak, and all my kindling has been soggy lately. Have a great day! DzyMsLizzy, thank you for stopping by!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this so funny bt want and need much more article/hubs/stuff written to keep up my spirits! I am going into withdrawal with only these few hubs! LOL Very funny hub! Sorry, I am on the opposite side of that fence. ] rather 'much' on the over-sweet syrupy-sticky side.
My true favorite, as the child of New England parents, is REAL maple syrup, as it was originally conceived--pure, unadulterated, boiled-down sap of the maple tree, with no artificial additives or extra sugars. And very pricey, as well--it is a rare treat! Thanks for reading, Dolores! I love the stuff too much and have sworn off waffles because of it.
Syrup of any kind is so high in calories. It's evil. But, I can't bring myself to hate it. But I loved the hub! My maple syrup phobia is more strongly based on my younger siblings. I have since that time learned to eat maple syrup, it's been 4 years. But I will not allow anyone within ten feet of me if syrup is in the room.
