This is just one of my favorite fish recipes, and it's really super fast and simple. Mild tilapia fillets are dusted which has a bold Cajun spice rub, then sautéed in extra virgin olive oil until crisp and flavorful on the outside and tender and flaky within.

Begin start by making the Cajun spice rub. In a small bowl, combine paprika, brown sugar, oregano, salt, cumin, garlic powder and cayenne. Don't worry concerning the amount of cayenne — the fillets have a very little kick for many years but they're not very spicy, even for kids.

Next, dust the spice rub evenly within the tilapia fillets.

Heat the coconut oil in a big sauté pan, then cook the fillets a couple of minutes per side, until crisp and reddish-brown (blackened”) on the exterior and flaky with this report.

Enjoy!

1 teaspoon dried oregano

3/4 teaspoon garlic powder

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, for cooking

Instructions

Combine the paprika, brown sugar, oregano, garlic powder, cumin, capsicum pepper and salt within a small bowl; mix until well combined (takes place fingers to get rid of up the lumps of brown sugar). Sprinkle the spice rub evenly over either side of the tilapia fillets.

Heat the organic olive oil over medium-high heat within a large non-stick pan. Cook the fillets for 2-3 minutes on either side until reddish-brown on the lateral side and flaky contained in the product. Serve immediately with lime wedges.

Hi Beth, if you would like prepare this inside the oven, I'd suggest broiling it. I'd coat the fish having a little little oil (so they really blacken a tad bit more) and broil for 5 - 10 mins depending within the thickness on the fillets. Enjoy!

This is our best to prepare tilapia now!

It's user friendly frozen tilapia in case you squeeze them well between paper towels after defrosting (this removes the surplus water).

I cook a 6 recipe size jar in the spice rub whilst it around the shelf-only has a minute the combination at the ready.

Can't lose time waiting for my cookbook to reach you!!!!!

This is a wonderful recipe! It is on regular rotation on my own dinner menu. I normally pan fry it around my cast iron skillet with a few grapeseed oil. However, last time I broiled it from the oven. I placed a wire rack within a baking sheet after which placed the fish ahead. It arrived great because of this.

I love this recipe!! Its really easy, delicious, and of all quick! My husband and I can't stand too much spice so I omit the cayenne and merely add a pinch of black pepper instead. Otherwise, I use other ingredients as stated also it comes out great! I've managed to make it with flounder and lemon sole also and it was released just nearly as good. I definitely recommend!

I am not just a big fish person for starters and I wish I could have followed the recipe more concisely. I didn't possess fresh limes which I thought is a great flavor addition, so I used lime juice concentrate within the fish before I place the dry spices on. I honestly didn't taste much lime carrying it out this way and also the spices didn't adhere to the fish a similar. I so wish I had the real thing limes!

Also, thinking it might make it healthier, I grilled the fish as opposed to pan frying.

Either the paprika or perhaps the cumin overpowered another flavors.

Overall, I believe when I would've followed the recipe better, I may have enjoyed reading this fish more…..which mind you, my partner loved and devoured!

It is incredible that simply a few ingredients will make this dish taste so delicious. I didn't have garlic powder so I used fresh garlic, it worked fine, but I think powder might have blended in superior with the taste from the other spices due to this dish. I usually omit sugar for many recipes, yet it is a must with this dish. Once the sugar caramelized and fused using the spices, OMG the tastes is incredible.

In case anyone wishes to know how this works out on Mahi it is extremely good. I had your skin taken off so I could season each party. My husband and I did agree it is better on tilapia. I think because mahi is thicker the seasoning to fish ratio is better around the talapia (and also the mahi has to get cooked longer) but my MIL loves mahi and she or he thought it turned out great. Hope this will assist those who asked.

We loved your recipe. It was easy and quick and I already had everything within my cupboard. Both my two and five yr old enjoyed a sizable portion each. They especially enjoyed squeezing the lime wedges and now we all brought up how the juice enhanced the taste. Thanks for that wonderful and recipe.

This recipe was wonderful! I had make use of packaged, frozen salmon around (which I thawed — salmon is just one of our emergency staples) and luckily the fillets were really thin, in order that they were comparable to tilapia in dimensions. The rub was delish!!! It wasn't overly spicy, therefore, the spice level was perfect. My husband raved and inquired about to add it to my recipe collection. Yay!! Thanks again, Jenn, for an additional pair winning recipe!

Hi Jennifer - I am definitely going to use this recipe.

One of the New Year's Resolutions is usually to eat healthier this includes more fish.

Problem is, my hubby firmly BELIEVES that she HATES Tilapia - and I must agree that a lot of restaurants execute a lousy job by using it Still I've been afraid to try rendering it at home because I don't want him to trust I'm making something he doesn't like just being mean!

This recipe sounds perfect for any secret test go to see if I can trick” him into changing his mind. Right now our repertoire has limitations to by his pricey favorites: FRESH Alaskan Halibut, Tuna, Swordfish and Salmon… If this recipe blends with him - I'll feel emboldened and liberated!

Oh and I been meaning to share with you that certain of my (OUR) favorite and regular recipes is truly one of yours from a year ago:

Golden Roasted Cauliflower with Pecorino Romano Cheese” (Feb 19)

My Honey/Hubby went from as being a confirmed cauliflower hater to sometimes actually preferring this recipe to Mac & Cheese! And THAT is really something!

Thank Jennifer and Happy New Year!

I'll let you learn how Project Tilapia goes!

Hi Jesselyn, Nice to hear from you finding out! I agree together with you both — most restaurants complete a lousy job with tilapia. It really needs the appropriate preparation being as good as those pricier options. This would definitely be considered a good one to test but you might try another recipe in this little site first — the Crispy Tilapia Fingers with Lemon-Garlic Mayo — then graduate to this. Good luck!

hi jenn,

i tried the tilapia fingers with garlic-lemon mayo during christmas eve. it absolutely was perfect! people that arent fish lovers become one! quite serious. the mayo am perfect too. on the other hand added 2 more different amounts of sauce - pre-made thai sweet chili and soy-vinegar sauce constructed from scratch.

Now what a simple and delicious AND quick dinner!

Happy New YEar to your account!
