Grill Tilapia (African Style) — Easy whole grilled Tilapia with smothered in herbs and spices with an African spicy hot sauce for dipping.
However, you need to have seen him swallowing the fish gets hotter was cooked- no kidding! He didn't chew it. What get lucky and the creepy fish, I guess it turned out too good to feed up on.
Ok, then when the attendees are pretty much Africans, Asians or Caribbean it's a different story. Everyone just digs in- usually fish could be the first to visit. I guess this is a cultural thing. In Africa, we never let anything get wasted. Some people wish to lick, nibble, chew and completely consume the bones. The eyes staring back at you don't scare anyone. In some households, you dare not eliminate the head or maybe you would be in seriously trouble. This was the way it is in my home.
Making grill fish in your house is quite easy, there are numerous variations each with it's own unique taste. To be honest, I seldom ensure it is the same. I usually select the spices I have readily available but here are a few must have like garlic, black pepper, some fresh herbs (basil- the most popular, parsley, celery or thyme)
Here would be the deal when grilling fish it's easier to grill if you use a grill fish basket - makes a difference (easy flipping).
I included grill ripe plantains they're going great with grill fish. It is customary for everyone grill fish by sort of spicy sauce. Use this here or perhaps your favorite sauce spicy hot sauce.

1-2 African Nutmeg ehuru
1 piece 1/2 inch fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced

Make three -four diagonal cuts in either side of the fish, all the way up right through the bone. Season fish with salt, pepper, and squeeze some lemon over it. Set aside

Preheat to high heat.
When you are to grill, Wipe along the grill basket with oil towel and them immediately lay the fish down inside fish casket. Let them grill around 1-2 minutes on all sides
Reduce to medium high, then cover the grill for those who have a gas grill
If you're using a small bbq grill, leave the fish within the open grill or hot charcoal.
Baste with fish spice
Let the fish cook for any total of 4-5 minutes on them, you should add a minute on two depending around the thickness within your fish until cooked - when fish is white plus the juices must run clear.
Check for doneness by causing sure the meat nearest to the bone is fully cooked - slash that has a knife to confirm.
Serve with pepper sauce these grilled plantains.
Grilled Plantain
Peel plantains
Slice from the middle then cut in halve. Season with salt and brush with spice mix
Grill on all sides for about 3 minutes until fully cook through - watch carefully simply because they burn easily. Enjoy!

hey,
I just discovered this purchasing for recipes for grilled Tilapia all together, besides the filets, also it sounds and appearance amazing! I will definitely test it, though i probably won´t be capable of getting that african nutmeg where I live… Anyway, I have no experience grilling fish, as well as I don´t obtain it from the pictures, thats why I need to ask, have you scale off of the fish beforehand or do you put it for the grill full of scales,
Greetings from Germany 🙂
Hello,
There can be a recipe that I loved from African a Bites, that it was called spicy roasted fish”. It was such as this recipe, only oven baked and fewer herbs. I found it basic and delicious. Has it been removed from your site 🙁
Love your recipes incidentally..
I friend cooked me two waste grilled talapia with grain ignore the name from it( reminds you of coucos. She covered it with chopped red, green, yellow peppers with onion, garlic, vinegar, salt, pepper and a few spicy seasoning.
I ate a whole lot and so fast I had to visit to bed. Will be more careful with the other one who I'm gonna reheat in the few.
Bye the best way, planning to west Africa within a couple of weeks for that very first time.
I will probably be oven baking Tilapia for just a party the other day. Do you suggest I use this recipe or this: -baked-seabass/ ,
I want the fish to get well seasoned and never break apart (which often happens when I make fish)
Can I use a grill basket inside the oven, Also, have you ever use njangsa to produce the pepe or spices for that fish,
So sorry I missed this comment. Both recipes is correct. And for your pepper sauce , I use the fish spices and quite often add Njansa, about 1-2 - it might be overpowering !
In order in order to avoid your fish from deteriorating use foil paper to line baking sheet or tray, then generously oil the pan(I use cooking spray). And you need not flip in the fish when baking This works well with me each of the time
love it but , have no idea what anise seeds are.
